Community Noticeboard

There's always lots going on in and around Ilkley, and we will put up notices and posters of local events on this page. We regularly update this page so please come back to check for new events. All events are listed in date order.

We also send out a weekly news bulletin with useful information about what's going on at All Saints as well as church family news. If you'd like to sign up for this, then you can do so here

Wednesday November 20th - Invitation to work with Ben Rhydding Methodist Church on an upcoming exhibition

Initial meeting: Wednesday November 20th, 6.30pm at Ben Rhydding Methodist Church. Please contact Patsy Bastow (bastow_fam@blueyonder.co.uk) if you're interested in taking part, regardless of whether you are able to make this initial meeting.

More information about the exhibition below:

As part of the Bradford City of Culture 2025 celebrations, during next September, Ben Rhydding Methodist Church will be one of five venues in the Bradford District exhibiting artworks held in the Methodist Modern Art Collection (MMAC) and we are writing to you to ask whether you would be interested in working with us to help us interpret works through community curation.

Ben Rhydding Methodist Church

The theme that Ben Rhydding are exploring through the works they're borrowing is 'Peril' - exploring 'people / environment / faith in times of peril' - so we are keen to engage with local groups and organisations that are environment and climate action-focused.

The works as part of the Methodist Modern Art Collection can be viewed online here:

Background

The overall exhibition held across the five venues will open over the first September next year and run until Sunday 12th October (TBC). Whilst they all will have their own theme, they will all be linked via an Art Trail and the overall theme for the exhibition, "Everything is Connected." The venues are:

There will also be a series of reproductions of some works in the collection at several bars and cafes in the North Parade area of Bradford.

Creative responses and engagement with communities

Ben Rhydding is keen to work with relevant local community groups as part of producing creative responses to the artworks - the intention is to display these (with individuals' permission) alongside the works in addition to the labels and an interpretation board with a summary of the whole exhibition (this will signpost visitors to the other venues along with the Art Trail leaflet).

We are looking to hold some sessions at Ben Rhydding with some print outs of the works and/or a projection will be available for people to respond to at the sessions. There will be a short presentation and then a chance to hear from you what you think of the works and our ideas for the exhibition. Coffee/tea and cakes will be served.

When?

Do let us know what time of day / day of the week works best for you - if there is a lot of interest, we can hold a couple of sessions. We're looking to have the first one in late November and then another in February but we are open to changing this to best suit the groups we want to work with. If November is too soon, we could think about holding sessions in January and February and varying the day/time of the week if that would help, depending on how flexible you are.

It will be a facilitated session with either Verity Smith (Faith & Arts Development Lead – Bradford 2025) and/or Prof. Ann Sumner (Chair of the MMAC Management Committee) present.

We hope these will be interactive sessions with a chance to look at some great works together.
